Joy Jones is a passionate children's writer and content curator. 

 

Born and raised in Denver, Colorado, she graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Colorado, Boulder with a degree in Journalism and a minor in English. She holds a master’s in Business Management from the University of Denver.

An advocate for diversity and representation in media and children’s literature, she is a member of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators and PEN America. She is involved with Go on Girl! Book Club, which is a nationally recognized reading club committed to fostering an awareness and appreciation for the diverse literary works of black authors. In addition, she worked for Epic for Kids, the world's largest digital library as a content curator. She was responsible for sourcing content from publishing and media companies and curating a curriculum based log for STEAM and Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Media Content.

 ​In 2021, she self-published a children’s picture book titled, Charlie and the Great Maskarade. The story was written to help young children adjust to COVID-19 mask mandates within elementary schools. In 2018, she wrote a play, titled Rooted, which was produced for the Theatre Made in Boulder festival.

Growing up as one of the only African American female students in her community, she frequently encountered racial discrimination. To cope, she would often bury her head full of frizzy curls into books to provide a sweet escape. Children's books were so influential in her life, and she is passionate about partnering with the Lord to write stories that will deeply resonate and bless readers of all ages for this generation and generations to come. She pray's that the stories she writes will allow readers to see themselves in characters, encounter the love and hope of Jesus Christ and know that they are not alone.
